About

Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Hearken Psychological Services. My name is Kaleigh DeSimone, PsyD, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a part-time online practice serving adults living in Hawai'i. I have been working full time as a psychologist in Hawai'i since completing my postdoctoral residency on Oahu in LGBTQIA Health in 2016. Please note that I have limited availability on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Although I will be accepting insurance in the near future, I am currently only accepting private pay. However, superbills are available and I accept HSA/FSA. ___________________________________________________________________________ INDIVIDUAL THERAPY As a generalist, I treat a range of presenting concerns, but have specialized training in LGBTQIA affirming care. I also offer culturally responsive evidence-based treatments for PTSD, anger/irritability, insomnia, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and panic disorder. I am an integrative therapist taking a flexible, person-centered approach to meet the unique needs of my clients. To hearken is to listen, to give respectful attention. Therapy requires listening without judgment so that you can speak authentically. I strive to create a safe and collaborative therapeutic environment. Regardless of your reasons for seeking therapy, my aim is to walk alongside you and help guide your path to healing. Finding a therapist can be challenging, especially one that is the right fit for your needs. It is important that the therapist you select offers scientifically informed treatments and has experience addressing your areas of concern. It is also important that they offer appointment times that work with your schedule and either accept insurance or are within your budget. Finally, it is important that you can genuinely connect with the therapist and develop a trusting relationship so healing can occur. To best determine fit, I recommend scheduling a free 15-minute consultation. - WHAT TO EXPECT - COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT: 1 TO 3 SESSIONS A typical course of therapy will begin with a comprehensive assessment of your identified needs, relevant history, and how such concerns are impacting your daily life. After the completion of the initial assessment, I will offer a conceptualization or understanding of how your primary concerns developed, diagnostic impressions, and collaborate with you to develop a scientifically informed and individualized treatment plan. It is during this time that you also get to assess if my working style is right for you. ACTIVE TREATMENT: 8 TO 24 SESSIONS Once we have established a clear understanding of your needs and have agreed upon a treatment plan, we'll begin active treatment which can range from 8 to 24 sessions. I will provide safe, supportive, and structured sessions to help facilitate lasting change. As an integrative therapist, I flexibly tailor the treatments to your specific needs, pulling from multiple research-driven approaches. Some examples of evidence-based treatments offered include but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged Exposure (PE). MAINTENANCE Throughout treatment, we will track your progress by frequently measuring symptom severity. Once your symptoms have improved or you have achieved your goals, we will transition to the maintenance phase of treatment. Maintenance sessions are usually less frequent than active treatment and are focused on sustaining progress, strengthening new coping skills, and creating a plan for your next steps. Clients then have the option to continue maintenance sessions or to schedule as needed. Maintenance sessions are typically once monthly or less. ___________________________________________________________________________ CONSULTATION & SUPERVISION Learning is lifelong and an important value to the field of psychology. In addition to individual psychotherapy, I offer professional consultation services, helping psychologists navigate professional challenges and improve their clinical practice. I also offer competency-based clinical supervision to pre-licensed mental health trainees. If interested in such services, please reach out directly or have your institution reach out about pricing and availability.
